Post Sale Update: This SM701 sold for $11,770 including buyer’s fee on Iconic Motorbike Auctions in Santa Monica, California.
The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto is a bike that seems to get updates every year. At its core, it’s a supermoto thumper which shares its engine and frame with a KTM sibling (originally the SMC R in 2016, and then the Duke 690 in 2017). The 2017 engine swap gained twin balance shafts and a higher redline, bumping horsepower up to 74. In 2019, the Brembo calipers and Bosch ABS were upgraded, and the forks got full adjustability. This year, Husqvarna went crazy with technology, adding a quickshifter, lean-sensitive traction control and ABS, and ride modes.
As Rennie Scaysbrook summed up in his review of the 2020 701 SM for Cycle News, “if you want a bike with no pretenses other than being an absolute hooligan machine with no real concessions for comfort, long distance riding, or any other practicalities, the 701 is definitely the bike for you.”
This example (VIN: VBKUSV401LM788320) is offered by the original owner who immediately threw thousands of dollars of extras at it – Akrapovic exhaust with Power Commander, Rottweiler Performance intake, Tekmo Racing titanium header, fender eliminator kit, handlebar end mirrors, and Kungfu Graphics Rockstar kit. It has just 153 miles and the seller is letting it go as he wants to move into flat trackers.
