Post Sale Update: After being relisted, this RD250A sold for a best offer of $4,900.
A little bit of trivia for you – Yamaha’s RD250 had 6 gears in the transmission, but you could only access 5. Removing a blanking plate allowed you to get the 6th gear. The asking price on this example is steep ($5,800) but they seller is taking best offers and I’m impressed with how nice this looks considering it’s never been restored.
In 1974, all of the RD350s were painted Ruby Red, and all of the RD250s were Amber Brown. In the US, both featured the Yamaha logo with two white stripes on the tank – arguably the most boring visual scheme of the entire air-cooled production run (’73-’79). The engine was a parallel twin two stroke that produced 30 horsepower, and the bike weighed about 350 pounds. For more information, check out this February 1974 review from Motorcyclist Illustrated, hosted on Motorbike Search Engine.
This bike has just 1,030 miles and it’s in great cosmetic shape, though some rubber pieces are cracked from age and there’s a scuff on the front fender. The seller says the bike is mechanically perfect and runs like new. Find this RD250 for sale in Post Falls, Idaho with a BIN of $5,800 or best offer
