8-20-23 Update: Five years later, this Transalp is back up for sale – though it’s now in Maine with all of two additional miles (9,765 in total) and a lower asking price. Find it for $4,800 here on ADVRider.
In the late 80s, Honda offered both an AT and a TA – the Africa Twin and the Transalp. Both were ahead of the times, though the latter was more street-biased. Consider it a jack of all trades sort of bike with a cult following. The US only got the Transalp between ’89 and ’91, and it was much more rare in red versus white. Honda called it Fighting Red.
The first generation of the Transalp got a liquid cooled V-Twin that produced approximately 50 horsepower and was capable of 110 miles per hour. Wet weight was approximately 450 pounds. The seller of this example provides over 100 photos for you to evaluate his claim that this bike is “immaculate”. Everything is said to work and the one cosmetic flaw seems to be a scrape in the paint on the left side of the tank. THere’s also some light wear by the left peg from a boot, which is understandable as the bike has 9,763 miles on it. Otherwise, it’s in impressive cosmetic condition.
