Post Listing Update: This RS1200 did not get any interest at the BIN of $8,895.
Was yesterday’s Battletwin a little too exotic for you? Looking for a classic Buell that’s a bit more street appropriate? Say hello to the RS1200 Westwood. While the Battletwin was technically Buell’s first street legal road bike, the Westwind was much easier to ride on the street thanks to a comfier riding position.
The RS1200 was introduced in 1989, and the half-fairing opened up the visuals so that you could finally see the powerplant came from Harley-Davidson. I much prefer the visual style of the Westwind because now you can see the frame, the suspension, exhaust, and the front brake. They were all so interesting when this bike was released, but the Battletwin hid of all the technology in the quest for a lower drag coefficient. MSRP when new was a hefty $14,795, but this bike was a revelation when it came out. Want to learn more? Check out Motorcycle Classics for additional details.
