Tomorrow morning I’m hopping on a plane to head back to one of my favorite places in the US: the Barber Motorsports Museum. Every year they put on something called the Small Bore, which is a “weekend-long celebration of small-capacity motorcycling and culture.” This year, Honda’s piggybacking on the festivities to introduce the newest version of their popular small bore bike – the Honda Grom.
First of all: will any of you be at the Small Bore? If so, please let me know in the comments (or email me: abhi@bike-urious.com), I’d love to see you there!
It’s been a while since I’ve ridden a Grom – I reviewed one back in 2014 (one of the first bike reviews I’ve ever done) and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was so successful that Honda ended up creating a full lineup of “miniMOTO” bikes: the Super Cub, Trail 125, and the one I love the most: the Monkey.
There’s also a Navi but that uses a smaller motor and it is much cheaper:
Since I last rode a Grom, it’s gone through a couple of restyles and gained a fifth speed in the transmission. Beyond that, it still features a 124cc air-cooled single, disc brakes with ABS…and that’s pretty much it.
I’m going to be at Barber for a couple of days – I’ll get a Grom to ride around and explore the event and I’m VERY excited to say that Honda will also be hosting a “Grom Prix” where we do a mini endurance race in teams of 3…can’t wait to see how that goes!
