Post Sale Update: After 33 bids on eBay, this RD sold for $4,050.
The biggest of the RD’s, the RD400 debuted in 1976 with an evolution of the powerplant from the RD350. For many riders in the 70s, this was the motorcycle to have. Visordown called it a Bike Icon, saying “Cool doesn’t even come close.”
The 399cc motor was good for 44 horsepower and a top speed of about 105 miles per hour. Starting with the 350 motor, Yamaha increased the stroke so they had to develop new crankcases. The new motor was now rubber-mounted and moved forward in the frame. The RD400 was produced until 1979, at which point the RD350LC took over.
This bike (VIN: 1A1-012809) has 22,700 miles and it will appeal to those of you that are suckers for the Competition Yellow livery. The seller claims it starts first kick and runs great – he includes a video to back that claim up:
Note that while this Yamaha is in Canada, the seller will take it across the border for a “nominal” fee to make it easier to ship in the US. Find this RD400C for sale in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with bidding up to $2,200
