Post Listing Update: This Motobi did not meet reserve with 13 bids up to $3,150.

Motobi was founded in 1949 by the eldest of the 6 Benelli brothers. They became known for the “power egg” engine, and once they brought Primo Zanzani on board, they also became known for racing. Based on a 250cc Sprite, this Motobi has been converted to look like a replica of a factory racer that had been worked over by Zanzani.

For more on Zanzani and what he was able to do for Motobi (and Benelli), check out Motobi’s site on the subject. This example (VIN: 101063) does not have a title but according to a commenter on the eBay listing who claims to be the builder of the bike, it has lightened timing gears, a fresh clutch, milled head, and a Zanzani cam – so it might be more than just a cosmetic replica. It features a lovely handmade alloy fairing, as well as hand fabricated foot pedals and rear sets. The seller says his original plan was to use it in vintage racing, though it seems he never got around to it. A service manual and Scitsu tach are included as well.
