Post Sale Update: This R1 sold for $18,303 (including the 7% buyer’s fee) on Iconic Motorbike Auctions.

The Yamaha R1 LE was Yamaha’s celebration of its 50th anniversary. Taking their incredibly popular 1000cc sportbike as a platform, Yamaha produced a very limited run of only 500 bikes that were full of incredible extras and turning them into near-production racers. Over on the auction site, we have a rare example that’s never been ridden!

Specific changes made for the Yamaha R1 LE include an homage to Kenny Roberts and the original Yamaha racing colors with the lovely yellow/black/white paint, custom front and rear Ohlins suspensions – developed by the same team that took care of the Yamaha MotoGP bike of the time, Marchesini aluminum wheels designed specifically for this bike, a slipper clutch, and an integrated lap timer.

Manufactured in November of 2005, this example is VIN: JYARN15E66A003888, Engine #: N512E00509. The seller is the original owner, he purchased it to add to a collection of 0-mile R1s he acquired (including a 2012 World GP 50th Anniversary that we will be auctioning off soon and a 2016 60th Anniversary that we just sold). It is number 413/500, and the odometer shows 0 miles.

It’s riding on its original Pirelli Diablo tires and it comes with the Limited-Edition-specific “special tool box.”
